The “Academician Independent Research Project” of the Spine and Spinal Cord Department at Kunming Tongren Hospital has successfully passed the project completion review

Recently, the research project Treatment of Spinal Cord Injury Using Autologous Adipose-Derived Stromal Vascular Fraction, led by Academician Su Guohui and undertaken by Kunming Tongren Hospital, successfully passed the project completion review organized by the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology. The expert review panel, comprising leading domestic scientists and clinical experts in cell research, including Academician Gu Xiaosong, spoke highly of the project, commenting that it “features innovation and groundbreaking achievements, fills the research gap in related fields in Yunnan Province, and has reached an internationally advanced level.”

This is the first “Academician Independent Exploration Project” launched in Kunming and the only medical research project among all projects in the program. The successful completion of the project marks a major breakthrough in the field of cell-based therapy for spinal cord injury.

This remarkable achievement did not come by chance; it stems from the team’s consistent and arduous efforts day in and day out. To develop the optimal research protocol, team members reviewed massive volumes of literature repeatedly and held countless seminars to refine every detail. Every dataset underwent rigorous verification, and every procedure was executed with a pursuit of perfection. The team secured recognition from all panel experts through solid professional expertise.
More importantly, during his professional inspection of the project, Academician Su spoke highly of the team’s research philosophy, technical roadmap and preliminary preparatory work. Such affirmation served as one of the key driving forces behind the project’s ultimate success.

Such is the law of scientific research: as progress is made in one subject, new and deeper questions will inevitably emerge, and new directions for collaboration will naturally unfold.
At present, a new joint research project between the Department of Spine and Spinal Cord of Kunming Tongren Hospital and Professor James’s team, who leads the Miami Spinal Cord Injury Program in the United States, has officially launched. Funded with 1.27 million RMB by the Hong Kong Spinal Cord Injury Foundation, this initiative marks the kickoff of another high-level international collaborative project. It will also motivate us to forge ahead on this endless journey of exploration.”
